Childhood

Ofriky, an enchanting child with smiling eyes, a mischievous spark and infinite curiosity. Grew up alongside Yiftah almost like twins. When Mika and Neta joined the celebration only intensified.

Since his birth, growing up in Koranit Ofry knew every person, child and dog in the community. He attended kindergarten in the village and later went to Har Shekheniya School. In fourth grade, he joined the youth movement with the rest of his classmates, and later he guided younger groups and was active in the local movement cell.

Even as a toddler we recognized his insane sense of direction. 
When out with Yiftah, he was responsible for finding the way back.

Quotes from childhood:

Two and a half years old:
“Mom, give me another cucumber, I only have the bush left” (the parsley in the salad)
“My ‘pitzornayim’ are long” 
*(fingernails in Hebrew are ‘tzipornayim’)
“This ‘garba’ is dirty” 
*(a sock in Hebrew is ‘gerev’)

On a walk: “Here is a ‘ganenet’ bird” 
*(‘paradise’ in Hebrew, as in a bird of paradise, is ‘gan eden’)

Three years old:
“Here is a ‘panchur’ tire” 
*(a punctured tire in Hebrew has a ‘pancher’)

Ofry: “Look at the pretty bird!”
Yiftach: “It’s a blackbird”
Ofry: “Right, because it has an orange beak…”

Ofry looks at a picture of grandpa Zvi (Hebrew for ‘gazelle’) for a long time- “But why doesn’t he have horns?”
Three and a half years old- “We can’t go near the edge of the cliff because a god forbid can happen.”

Four years old- “I was bored at kindergarten, I didn’t find ‘ta’asuka’ or ‘targua’.”
*(‘ta’asuka is Hebrew for ‘occupation’, and ‘regi’a’ is the correct Hebrew word for ‘relaxation’)

Six years old (in a conversation about what’s personal and what’s familial\shared)- “My backpack for the first grade will be personal, and mom’s belly is familial because we all passed through it…”

Six and a half years old- “Mom, did you make a ‘psolet’ cake?”
*(‘solet’ is Hebrew for semolina, whereas ‘psolet’ means waste\garbage.)
